Outside the Shutter
Hello, I’m Leonardo — a Deaf Puerto Rican photographer and videographer with over 8 years of experience behind the camera. I specialize in landscapes, portraits, videography, drone photography, and creative storytelling.
My photography journey began with a simple Canon PowerShot SX40, a fixed-lens camera that traveled everywhere with me. One day, while looking through my travel photos on my laptop, my daughter and her brothers burst into laughter and excitement reliving those memories. That moment made me realize photography is more than just taking pictures — it’s about preserving emotions, stories, and moments people can cherish forever. From there, my passion quickly grew into a business.
Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide range of individuals, artists, athletes, and companies across Canada. Along the way, I realized the photography industry is highly competitive, and I wanted my work to stand apart in a meaningful way. That’s where my creative approach developed.
During sessions, I often hand people objects or prompts to interact with so they can forget about the camera and simply be themselves. This helps me capture genuine candid moments filled with real emotion, joy, and connection rather than forced poses.
Working alongside dancers, Deaf artists, performers, and athletes has greatly shaped my artistic perspective. It inspired me to experiment with overlays, motion, and storytelling techniques that bring energy and emotion into a single frame. My goal is to create images that make viewers pause, imagine, and form their own story from what they see.
To get my attention, simply tap my shoulder, gesture with me, or use a notepad or phone if preferred — whatever feels comfortable for you. I don’t bite! I look forward to meeting you and helping create memories you’ll be able to hold onto for years to come.
Thank you for reading!
